Center Stage The Center Stage series brings lectures, concerts, exhibits, performances and more
to Tech’s campus to promote appreciation for fine arts and a better understanding
of diverse ideas and world cultures. Guests often include artists, authors and thought
leaders on various topics. Often, these guests provide educational opportunities for
students through master classes, workshops and classroom engagement. Admission to
Center Stage events is free and open to the public unless otherwise noted and students
are given priority seating. Backdoor Playhouse For more than 60 years, the Backdoor Playhouse at Tech has staged productions ranging
from Sophocles and Shakespeare to contemporary to works of contemporary playwrights.
Located in the Jere Whitson Building, The Backdoor Playhouse is home to the English
department’s Tech Players, offering productions each semester and hosting open mic
nights and other events throughout the year.
Calendar Activities hosted by student groups and organizations as well as university-hosted
events can be found on the university calendar. Events on campus or hosted by campus
groups can be added to the university calendar by event hosts. Athletics Tennessee Tech is home to 14 NCAA Division I teams belonging to the Ohio Valley Conference.
Men’s and women’s basketball teams compete in the 9,852-seat Hooper Eblen Center while
the Golden Eagle football team competes on Overall Field in Tucker Stadium. Home matches
for all Golden Eagle athletics events can be attended for free by university students
with a valid student ID. Music Performances Experience live music in the Wattenbarger Auditorium of the Bryan Fine Arts Building.
Performances happen almost nightly during the semester with student, faculty and guest
recitals. Most programs are free and open to the public with the exception of Bryan
Symphony Orchestra, Mastersingers and other special guest events as indicated. Student Organizations Hundreds of student organizations and Greek chapters at Tech offer something for every
interest. Whether students are looking for groups to network with within their major
or finding other students with similar hobbies, student organizations can be a great
way to connect and present opportunities to be active on campus and in the greater
university community. Intramural Sports
Through Intramural Sports, Tech students, faculty and staff have the opportunity to
participate in team sports and compete against each other in a recreational atmosphere.
More than 20 leagues, tournaments and contests are offered during the fall and spring
semesters. Active sports include volleyball, basketball, ultimate frisbee, tennis,
softball, racquetball, soccer, table tennis, kickball, flag football and more.
