Tennessee Tech School of Agriculture Graduate Assistantship - Precision Agriculture | Description: Dr. Abdul Momin in the School of Agriculture at Tennessee Tech University is recruiting a graduate student to work on geo-spatial technologies coupled with artificial intelligence for precision agriculture beginning in either Spring, Summer, or Fall 2024 semester. Students with agricultural engineering background and experience on application of geo-spatial technologies and machine learning are especially encouraged to apply. University of Tennessee Post-Doctoral Research Associate - Center for Agricultural Synthetic Biology (UTIA) in Knoxville, TN | Description: A postdoctoral position in plant genetic engineering is available starting immediately in the laboratory of C. Neal Stewart, Jr. at the University of Tennessee in the Department of Plant Sciences affiliated with the Center for Agricultural Synthetic Biology. Positions are grant-funded. Postdocs will primarily be responsible for improving the genetic engineering of plants and altering DNA for more effective gene expression and trait development in crops, which include a subset of the following models, potato, soybean, canola, grasses such as switchgrass, and duckweed. DOD Sustainable Engineering – USACE Environmental Laboratory | Description: Under the guidance of a mentor, you will research projects focused on various aspects of life-cycle assessment (LCA) methodology and modeling. Projects will focus on Environmental Life-Cycle Assessment issues to assess the environmental impacts of both current and new and emerging materials. Specific projects include the development of engineered technologies for risk mitigation and management of per/polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) on army installations and the identification and development of PFAS-free chemical formulations. You will have an opportunity to write proposals, publications, technical reports and presentations. |

Zintellect Environmental DNA (eDNA) and Molecular Ecology - USACE Environmental Laboratory (location varies) | Description: Under the guidance of a mentor, you will be part of a team of scientists focused on the use of molecular genetics to better study, monitor, and manage environmental systems. Research ranges from population genetics to molecular scatology, but may expand as opportunities arise. Studies based on environmental DNA (eDNA), environmental RNA (eRNA), including eDNA metabarcoding and eRNA sequencing, are important areas of research and development. The development of eDNA- or eRNA-based equivalents to community biological indices for terrestrial and aquatic systems, detection tools for animal and plant hazards in rugged environments, and capabilities for determining the sources of soil or water samples are all likely project areas. As a team, we are also interested in the merging of eDNA and eRNA capabilities with unmanned, robotic, mobile, and/or autonomous platforms. |
